Safeguarding Support Package

Putting safeguarding into practice in your own organisation can be daunting and it is hard to know where to start. In this section, we have gathered a selection of resources, templates, tools, training courses, videos and references particularly with small and medium organisations in mind.

Safeguarding Overview

Definition: VERB: (seɪfˌɡɑːd)

“Promoting the safety and welfare of people involved in the delivery or receipt of humanitarian aid and
development assistance, protecting them from harm, including all forms of exploitation, abuse and harassment.”
– by Scotland’s International Development Alliance

Safeguarding has come under increased attention and scrutiny since early 2018, when reports of abuses
and failure to act correctly in development and humanitarian work sparked intense media attention.

This Safer for All safeguarding support package has been developed by SIDA in collaboration with
the Scottish Government, in order to support organisations working internationally to achieve the best
standards of safeguarding. The package provides guidance and resources to strengthen policies and
procedures, build capacity, and link to training and services. This is essential to nurture a healthy
safeguarding culture and ensure that practice goes beyond basic compliance to reach the highest
standards of safeguarding.

By working to strengthen our safeguarding standards and build a healthy safeguarding culture, we can all
play our part in making our sector safer for all.
