UK fails to support Global Fund to fight diseases

The UK Government has failed to pledge funding for the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The UK was the only major world power not to raise its spending at a UN pledging event for the Global Fund. The Alliance joins global health campaigners and others, including the International Development Committee, in condemning this decision. Frances Guy, Alliance CEO, said:

“It’s hard to imagine what is non-essential about the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria just when the world might be on the cusp of finding a vaccine for malaria, still one of the biggest killers of children worldwide.  Scotland’s International Development Alliance joins the International Development Committee in Westminster in describing the failure of the UK to pledge a penny as shameful.”
