The Livingstone Initiative

The Livingstone Initiative is a registered charity based in Edinburgh. Our focus is Zambia and our aim is to create a lasting legacy in Zambia through medicine, education, art, and culture. We work closely with local communities and encourage collaboration between institutions and organisations both in Zambia and the UK. We work closely with local, regional, national and international partners to achieve sustainable and long-lasting results in the communities we work with.

To this end we currently have three main development projects:

The Livingstone Zambia-Scotland Medical Exchange.

The Chama Project – we are currently building the first secondary school for girls in Chama District – this is a very remote, rural region in north-eastern Zambia, where currently there is a prevalence of early pregnancies and child marriage and where girls have little or no access to education beyond basic primary school.

The Bird Exchange – an international exchange of cultural information through art, storytelling and music linking schools in Zambia and schools in Scotland.
