This CPG on International Development was created to facilitate discussions between MSPs and organisations working in Scotland on issues related to global sustainable development, and humanitarian action.

The May 2023 CPG meeting discussed the role for Scotland in both operationalising our own commitments to climate justice; and calling for more action in the UK and globally. The CPG last discussed climate justice after the Glasgow Climate Dialogues, and in advance of COP26.

This discussion explored what progress had been made, considered the financial mechanisms available in order to deliver on Loss and Damage commitments, explored the benefits and challenges of other climate finance proposals such as the Bridgetown Initiative; and looked at about innovative approaches from other countries.

COP28 will provide another opportunity for Scotland to show leadership on the global stage, and speakers discussed how our approach to a Just Transition has potential to set an example to others.

Here you will find the presentations given by the four speakers:

·        Leia Achampong, Senior Policy and Advocacy Officer, Climate Finance, Eurodad

·        Professor Mizan R Khan, Deputy Director of the International Centre for Climate Change & Development

·        Julius N’Goma, National Coordinator at Civil Society Network on Climate Change, Malawi

·        Ben Wilson, Advocacy Manager, SCIAF
