SIDA Policy Priorities 2026 – 2031

Scotland’s Role in Building a Fairer World: How the next Scottish Parliament and Government can shape a more globally aware Scotland, working to reduce global inequalities through joined up action on poverty, injustice, climate and environmental threats.

Elections to the Scottish Parliament in 2026 provide a moment for reflection, and for re-commitment to a bold and coherent approach to international development: one that matches values with action.

Scotland’s international development community shares a vision of a fairer and more inclusive world, free from poverty, injustice and environmental threats.

We are driven to move ‘from talk to transformation’, supporting radical change at the global level and in the nature of relationships with people and communities in the Global South, to positively contribute to justice at home and abroad.
We aim to change the narrative on ‘development’ and ‘aid’ and support a shift in decision-making and power structures away from the global north, supporting self-defined global sustainable development.

The proposals in this document set out how the next Scottish Parliament and Government can help deliver that vision.
