The Scottish Government, in partnership with the Disasters Emergency Committee and Humanitarian Emergency Fund Panel members, has published a report looking at the overview of the projects funded by the HEF. A number of SIDA members are members of the HEF Panel, as well as recipients of the various funding over the past few years.
Background
In 2017, the Scottish Government established a £1 million per annum Humanitarian Emergency Fund (HEF) to respond to humanitarian emergencies. It comprises an expert Panel (HEF Panel) with representatives from eight leading humanitarian aid organisations based in Scotland. Funds from the HEF are allocated to crises that meet a range of criteria, based on recommendations from the HEF Panel, supported by the HEF Secretariat administered by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).
Frances Guy, Chair of the HEF and Chief Executive of SIDA, said:
“The range of crises and locations set out in this annual report demonstrates the value of the HEF and its ability to respond to vulnerable populations in need. The decision of the Scottish Government to use the HEF to deliver Loss and Damage projects was a welcome and useful opportunity for members of the panel and officials to share the knowledge gained to help improve climate crisis responses in future. It is an honour and privilege to chair the HEF panel which draws on the expertise and time of its members and is an inspiring example of collaborative working across different organisations.”
