A statement from SIDA’s Diaspora Group for Global Citizenship

Diaspora Group Anti-Hate Statement

We are deeply saddened and concerned by the anti-immigrant riots that have taken place across the country in recent days. Hatred and division have no place in our society.

We stand in solidarity with everyone affected and call out for our representatives, organisations, communities and members to look out for one another, challenge prejudice where they encounter it, and commit to learning from each other’s experiences. Education and love is stronger than hatred and we remain hopeful we will progress together.

Scotland is built and thrives on diversity. People of all backgrounds, cultures and faiths help shape the communities we call home. Everyone belongs, and we all play a part to play for a safer, kinder and more inclusive nation and world.

We also refer to our previously published Anti-Hate Statement, which continues to reflect our values and commitment to standing against racism, xenophobia and discrimination in all its forms.

Now more than ever, we must take care of one another.
