Allasso

At Allasso, we believe that human beings everywhere should be able to live free from poverty, violence and fear. The world, sadly, does not match up to that ideal.

Allasso means ‘transform’. We believe that things can get better, that we can make a difference, and that lives can be transformed. We choose to believe that the light is stronger than the darkness, and that love is stronger than hate.

We support partners in the Indo-Burma region who share our desire and drive to make the world a better place. They work in conflict areas among people who have lost what little material possessions they had, and who have suffered terribly at the hands of others.

Our mission is to give people the tools to build stronger and better lives: community, education, health, and, above all, hope.

Some examples of the projects that we support are:
1. A school with over 650 children of all ages, who are given a quality and rounded education to help them grow into responsible citizens. Many of the students at the school have been displaced from their homes by conflict and live in relief camps with little prospect of returning home. An education gives them the opportunity to escape the poverty cycle.
2. A secure home for children, many of whom have lost parents or face similar hardships. They are given a place of safety and belonging, food and shelter, and the opportunity to heal, learn, grow into community leaders of the future.
3. A medical and diagnostic clinic providing access to basic care for communities cut off from mainstream medical services. The team here also provide mental health and trauma counselling to many, especially those who have suffered violence at the hands of others.
4. Rebuilding houses for families who have been driven from their homes and lost everything they owned. These families have been given a fresh start and the dignity of having a place to belong and call their own.
