The Scottish Government have committed to bringing forward legislation on Wellbeing and Sustainable Development in this Parliament following calls by a broad range of Scottish civil society ahead of the 2021 Election.

This panel discussion event will launch a new research report, commissioned by Scotland’s International Development Alliance and in partnership with Newcastle University, that explores what the future Wellbeing and Sustainable Development (Scotland) Act might look like, what it would hope to achieve and why it should be ambitious in its aims to foster a more joined up approach to wellbeing and sustainable development in Scotland.

Hosted by Scotland’s International Development Alliance and supported by SDG Network Scotland, attendees will get the chance to hear insight and ask questions to the research report authors, third sector leaders who called for the legislation and representatives from the Scottish Government.

Whether your focus is the economy, inequality, climate, health or international issues, join this event to find out why this legislation could help narrow the distance between stated ambitions and delivery of a wellbeing economy in Scotland and beyond.

By the end of the session, attendees should have a firm grasp on why this legislation has the potential to be a game changer in the way government and public bodies consider wellbeing and sustainable development, both here in Scotland and elsewhere. Discussions will also consider what this means for plans for a new Future Generations Commissioner for Scotland.

Speakers will include representatives from the Scottish Government, the academics who carried out the research, representatives from the Wellbeing Economy Alliance and other third sector leaders who have been calling for this legislation.
