Nigel Topping CMG, Chair of the UK Climate Change Committee will deliver a public lecture in Glasgow on the challenges of reaching net zero emissions.
The lecture will take place at the University of Strathclyde’s Learning and Teaching Building on Thursday 26 March, from 5.30-6.30pm. The event will be hosted by Professor Stephen McArthur, Principal and Vice Chancellor of the University of Strathclyde, and will be followed by a reception.
Mr Topping is best known for his role as the UN Climate Change High Level Champion for COP26, where he helped mobilise global action through the launch of the Race to Zero and Race to Resilience campaigns, bringing together governments, cities, businesses and financial institutions to accelerate progress towards a net zero and climate resilient future.
His career bridges the public and private sectors. He previously served as Chief Executive Officer of the We Mean Business Coalition and Executive Director of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), working at the forefront of corporate climate leadership and disclosure. A former systems engineer and mathematician, Mr Topping was awarded a CMG in 2022 for services to climate action.
As Chair of the Climate Change Committee, Mr Topping plays a central role in advising the UK Government and devolved administrations on emissions targets, carbon budgets and pathways to net zero. He continues to act as a trusted advisor to governments and financial institutions internationally on industrial strategy and the transition to a net zero economy.
