On the 25 February 2023, Scotland will mark 10 years as a Fair Trade Nation. This anniversary offers us an opportunity to reflect on the values and principles of Fair Trade, what has been achieved so far, and how Fair Trade contributes to a just, equitable and sustainable world. As we look ahead to how we can secure a Fair Trade future, we would like to highlight how Fair Trade and Social Enterprise can work together to tackle global inequalities and create social impact.

Please join us for a panel discussion about Fair Trade and Social Enterprise, chaired by Leida Rijnhout, Chief Executive of the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO); and with Gerry Higgins, Social Enterprise World Forum (SEWF); Chris Martin, Social Enterprise Scotland; and Tracy Mitchell, Just Trading Scotland (JTS).

Discussion topics:

• The links between Fair Trade and social enterprise – how the two movements interact and complement one another

• Social and Fair Trade enterprise as an alternative business model – the importance of asset lock and steward ownership and how they both work on systemic change of the current economic model

• What Fair Trade & social enterprises look like around the world – different social enterprise business models (e.g. buy one give one) and their different social impact focuses

• How social enterprise and Fair Trade relate to the wellbeing economy in Scotland

• How Fair Trade and social enterprise contribute to trade- and climate justice

• Local businesses as part of global movements & the importance of cross-collaboration, network building and representation in decision making on all levels

Once registered, you will be emailed joining instructions via Eventbrite a few days before the event.
