Global health inequality continues to be a persistent challenge influenced and exacerbated by cuts in funding, climate catastrophe, technological advancement and more. Communities see and feel the very real impact of these issues and these communities understand best what their needs are and what solutions can provide sustainable outcomes.

Then demonstrating, in the wake of the destruction of both medical schools in Gaza, how an international consortium supported local academic colleagues to deliver their curriculums using virtual platforms. Lastly, they will discuss the necessity of local leadership in situations of conflict such as Gaza, with first hand experience, exploring the many pitfalls and external pressures that have impact.
  • Dr Kingsley Oturu and Ahmed Garba will reflect on practical experiences of locally led health development partnerships between Scottish and Global South organisations for medical donations, highlighting need for trust building, engagement, early needs assessments and sustainable needs based health systems strengthening. He will explore how egalitarian needs based approaches improves ownership, accountability, sustainability and positive long term health outcomes, including perspectives/lived experiences from Global South partners to illustrate real world examples of locally driven health innovation and leadership.
