Globally, 1.6 billion people – one in six – has a disability, of which 80% live in low and middle-income countries, where poverty, conflict, climate emergency and humanitarian crises can increase the exclusion they face. A core tenet of working in the global sustainable development sector is ensuring that ‘no one is left behind’. Yet, too often people with disabilities are left out of the conversation and unable to access or meaningfully participate in the programmes we deliver. To reach the people most impacted by poverty and crisis, we must ensure our work is inclusive of men, women, boys, girls and people of all genders with disabilities.
Join us and CBM Global for an interactive session with practical tips on how your programmes can become more disability inclusive. CBM Global will share examples from their work, and participants will have the opportunity to share experiences and questions.
This session will address:
- What disability inclusion means in practice
- What you should consider when designing and delivering your programme
- How to identify and encourage people with disabilities to participate in your programme
- How to understand and address barriers to access and participation
- Signposting to further resources to strengthen your approach to disability inclusion
